Different Places, Same Lessons

Valley Loop Trail, Yosemite National Park
From Swinging Bridge to Vernal Fall Footbridge
Total distance walked: 5.5 miles

Last month I spent six days in Rome. Soon after, my sister and I hiked through Yosemite, surrounded by towering granite cliffs.

Yosemite Falls from Valley Loop Trail.

Both places have taught me patience, presence, and perspective. I love them in different ways.

Half Dome and Merced River from Superintendent’s Bridge.

Yosemite has shown me, among other things, nature’s scale.

Yosemite Falls from Cook’s Meadow.

Rome deepened my connection to my faith.

St. Peter’s Basilica

Different places. Different paths. Same lessons.

Valley Loop Trail

And both have changed me.

  1. Love how the Yosemite’s “Half Dome” is followed by an image of Rome’s dome – there’s a lovely synergy there – and perhaps (speaking as an architect now) being cradled within a dome, is the grounding presence that unites both places. wonderful! Linda xx
