Merced River Canyon Trail, Mariposa County, CA
Total distance walked: 2.0 miles
Spring is in the air. The days are longer, warmer, and lately brighter. I can feel hiking season is just around the corner.

I recently obtained a couple of “Peak Hour Plus” tickets for entry this summer into Yosemite National Park.

And, while I was at it, I put my name in a lottery for a Wilderness Permit so we can take a backpacking trip. I had eight choices and will find out soon if I was awarded one.

Oh, the lure of Yosemite. All revved up from the application process, I longed for a hike. It’s been months since I’ve been out on a real trail. We had no plans for the day, so as I often do on pre-spring days, my hubby and I drove down to the Merced River for a quick walk.

Many of the wildflowers that pop out first were beginning to bloom.
Couples and friends were out hiking with their dogs, taking advantage, as we were, of the beautiful day.

This little jaunt fueled my desire to hit the trails often this hiking season. My boots are ready for adventures and so am I.

Until next time…happy trails.
So nice to see a post from you. I was thinking about you this last week and hoping for a new post soon. What a beautiful day and the perfect day for a short hike. Keeping my fingers crossed you get a permit for a backpack trip. The wildflowers are stunning. I imagine it will be a great year for them with all the rain we have had. Glad your boots are ready, can’t wait to see where you go.
Take care.

Along the river, over the hills, in the ground, in the sky, spring work is going on with joyful enthusiasm, new life, new beauty, unfolding, unrolling in glorious exuberant extravagance — new birds in their nests, new winged creatures in the air, and new leaves, new flowers, spreading, shining, rejoicing everywhere.” John Muir
