Merced River Canyon, Mariposa County
Total distance walked: 7.2 miles
The day was pleasantly warm with a gentle breeze at Briceburg, a recreational spot along the Merced River. I strolled over the single-lane suspension bridge that crosses the river, passed through the metal gate, and proceeded onto the sunlit trail. It was a leisurely walk rather than a hike, following the flat expanse of the former railroad track.
I observed rafters skillfully navigating the swift currents of the river.

Numerous varieties of wildflowers were in bloom. Bees moved busily from one flower to another, vying with the vibrant butterflies fluttering nearby.

As I wandered, I cautiously avoided patches of poison oak encroaching on the trail. I traversed gullies where railroad trestles had once been erected.
I sidestepped a king snake, which stayed still for a photograph. I turned back at the Slate Creek Bridge, constructed in 1924, and made my way to the car.
As I reached the end of my walk, the gentle murmur of the river continued to soothe my soul.

So great! Just clicked on your blog. Welcome. Can’t wait to read your posts.

Thank you. You inspired me. It took a bit of figuring out how to do it though. 🙂
