Grizzly Giant Trail, Yosemite National Park
Total distance walked: 2.10 miles
Our drive to Yosemite started off smoothly, but then we hit a snag. A line of cars ahead of us began to slow down and eventually came to a complete stop. I’ve never experienced such a long wait to enter the park. Like the slow and steady growth of a giant sequoia, we creeped toward the entrance.

Chris remained incredibly patient and didn’t complain once about the delay. We wondered it if was due to road construction, but after an hour of waiting, we concluded it was just typical summer traffic.

Unfortunately, the long wait to get in also meant a lengthy wait for the shuttle to Mariposa Grove. In life, challenges and obstacles can strengthen us and help us grow. Despite the setbacks, we decided to press on.

The delays forced us to change our hike. Instead, we chose the Grizzly Giant Trail, starting from the end of the trail making it a loop hike rather than following the crowd directly to the Grizzly Giant tree.

In 2022, the Grizzly Giant was threatened by the Washburn Fire. The National Park Service used sprinklers to protect it and other trees in the grove.

Finishing our hike, I felt grateful for the change in plans. It turned out to be a pleasant walk, and being among the majestic trees reminded me of the power of patience and perseverance.

Sometimes, the best moments are unplanned. This day became a special memory of nature’s beauty and its lessons.
